About the Site & Vardo

This site started as a record of attending a hand tool workshop at Homestead Heritage in Waco, Texas.  You can find more information on the class on their website.

Right now the big project is the Vardo I’m building (more info below).

I’ll be adding more information on the construction projects I’ve done in the past, and the new projects coming up.

Background:

Hand planes, dovetails and all are new to me, but I’ve been doing rough construction for years.  This is a chance to learn patience, detail, and how to build furniture with traditional hand tools.

The Vardo

My next big project is building a vardo for the business my wife and I run.  You can see more about her handmade baby gifts and the vardo at babyvardo.com/blog

If you’re new to the site and want to see the overall design without wading through all posts, here’s are shortcuts to the initial drawings and then some 3d models.

Did you ever get the vardo finished? Got any pictures of the completed structure?

Thomas – thanks for checking in. I keep meaning to update this site, but obviously I’ve failed in that.

A lot has changed since I started this project. I have made more progress than is shown on the site currently, but construction plans are on hold. Our family has just sold the business the Vardo was originally being constructed for, as we prepare to move to Germany! I’ve been wanting to put up a post outlining the availability of the partially complete project for sale – I guess this comment can serve as that announcement for the moment.

I’ll try get the most up-to-date photos up on the blog in the next week. Thanks for asking!
