I had a very productive weekend. I assembled the first frame on the vardo, the end wall. I joined the side posts (as shown in the previous videos) with the bottom plate and curved rafter, installed the interior framing on this solid wall, and added shear bracing flush with the surface. Very shortly we’ll have some siding on there, and it’ll start to look like something!

just wondering if there are any new updates? Thanks Cathy
Hi Cathy, thanks for checking in. I need a nudge or two to get some updates going!
There has been some progress since the last update. Most of the frame sections are complete except for the mollycroft, including siding and primer on the ends. Unfortunately for the current schedule, we moved 6 weeks ago and that’s put things on hold. However, in the long run I should be in better shape. We’re now on a 90 acre farm with an enormous haybarn just perfect for rolling the entire (tall) vardo in and out, and working under cover. I hope to get that space cleared out in the next couple of weeks (now that I’ve finished some fencing for our goats – another story) and start building again.
Thanks I also got your email !
I’ll be checking back!
Are you still building this? I notice the last update was a while ago. I’m very interested to see this progress as I did something similar a couple of years ago – built a canvas roofed bow-top and blogged as I went along.
Hi arum. Unfortunately still in the same place as it was with the last comment. I have some of the newer photos on my computer now, I’ll try to get an update up soon on that. I need to get back it, but I’ve been busy with quitting my job, freelancing, etc.
So you built a bow-top? I’ll have to take a look through your blog. This one will be quite a bit heavier. I’m afraid it may also be a bit more time consuming, or at least I’m just slow about it.
John,
Just wanted to let you know that you have a bigger audience than you think watching the progress on your project. Hopefully you will find time to work on the Vardo as I am extremely interested in your design and building process. I hope to duplicate your efforts starting in the Spring but I want to learn where the “opportunities to be successful” (mistakes) can arise in the design and building based on your work. Please keep us posted. Thank you for sharing……..
Any updates in the last 2 months?
Looks like life is getting in your way as it does for me most of the time.
Anxious to see or hear about any progress you have made.
John,
Another 4 months have come and gone since my last comment. I have not seen any progress or updates on the Vardo.
Have you given up on the project or do you just not have the time to post?
Looks like I am going to have to start my project a little blind.
Good luck. Post something if you can.
